“THE ANOINTED PEN: WRITING AS A SACRED CALL FOR CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE”
WELCOME TO THE ANOINTED PEN SERIES! This is episode 2 of this series, and in this month of January, we are examining the origin of writing in Biblical times and why kingdom writers should explore writing as a divinely approved tool for kingdom influence.
In Matthew 13:52, Jesus shares a profound parable: “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.” This statement reveals a powerful truth about the responsibility of Kingdom disciples to steward and preserve the treasures of God’s Word, both old and new. One of the most effective ways to fulfill this mandate is through WRITING.
Writing has always been a sacred tool for preserving God’s truths and passing them down across generations. It ensures the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of divine wisdom.
Let us explore how writing serves as a tool for Kingdom preservation and why children of God must embrace the call to write.
Writing as a Tool for Preservation
Throughout Scripture, written records have played a vital role in safeguarding the truths of God. Without writing, much of what we know about God’s laws, promises, and works might have been lost to history. Writing ensures that God’s message remains undistorted, intact, and available for future generations.
Examples of Preservation in Scripture:
- God’s Commands to Moses:
- In Deuteronomy 31:9, Moses wrote down the law and entrusted it to the priests for safekeeping and public reading. This act of writing ensured that God’s commandments could guide His people across generations.
- The Dead Sea Scrolls:
- These ancient manuscripts, discovered in 1947, preserved Old Testament texts for over 2,000 years, demonstrating the enduring power of written records to safeguard truth.
In modern times, writing continues to be an essential tool for preserving Kingdom truths, ensuring that God’s principles are not diluted by cultural shifts or forgotten over time.
The Role of Scribes in God’s Plan
In biblical history, scribes were vital to the preservation and dissemination of God’s Word. They were meticulous in copying, interpreting, and teaching the Scriptures to ensure that every generation could know and understand God’s laws.
Ezra the Scribe:
Ezra provides an excellent example of a faithful scribe. In Ezra 7:6, we learn that he was “well-versed in the Law of Moses” and devoted to studying, obeying, and teaching it. Ezra’s dedication ensured that the Israelites remained connected to God’s covenant, even during challenging times.
Modern Scribes (Christian Writers):
Today, Christian writers are modern scribes. Just as Ezra ensured the continuity of God’s Word, Kingdom writers are called to:
- Document spiritual revelations and testimonies.
- Teach biblical principles in a way that resonates with contemporary audiences.
- Preserve the integrity of Scripture and Kingdom truths for future generations.
By embracing the role of scribes, Christian authors contribute to the preservation of the faith and ensure that the “treasures” of the Kingdom remain accessible.
Scrolls and Scriptures: The Power of Preservation
The Bible emphasizes the importance of written records for remembrance and preservation.
Biblical Commands to Write:
- Deuteronomy 6:9: God instructed His people to write His words on their doorframes and gates, making them visible reminders of His commands.
- Habakkuk 2:2: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.” Writing provides clarity, permanence, and accessibility for God’s Word.
How Writing Protects the Kingdom Message:
- Safeguarding against distortion: Writing ensures that the truths of God’s Word remain unaltered by cultural or ideological influences.
- Providing a reference point: Written works serve as spiritual anchors, enabling believers to revisit God’s principles and promises repeatedly.
Why Children of God Must Write Books
As disciples, Christians are entrusted with the responsibility of preserving the “treasures” of the Kingdom. Writing is one of the most effective ways to fulfill this responsibility.
Reasons to Write for Kingdom Preservation:
- To Pass Down Revelation: Writing allows each generation to leave behind a legacy of spiritual wisdom, much like the biblical authors who documented God’s dealings with His people.
- To Teach and Disciple Others: Books provide a timeless platform for teaching. For instance, the Apostle Paul’s epistles continue to disciple believers centuries after they were written.
- To Inspire and Build Faith: Testimonies of God’s faithfulness, preserved in writing, can inspire faith in others, just as the Psalms do.
- To Equip Future Leaders: Written works become tools for leadership training, helping believers understand their identity, purpose, and calling in the Kingdom.
Linking Back to Matthew 13:52: Writing for New and Old Treasures
In Matthew 13:52, Jesus calls Kingdom disciples to steward both “old treasures” and “new treasures.” Writing allows us to fulfill this mandate by:
- Preserving Old Treasures: Capturing the foundational truths of Scripture ensures that they are never forgotten. Books on the nature of God, the life of Christ, and the history of Israel reflect these timeless treasures.
- Sharing New Treasures: Writing also documents fresh revelations and insights from the Holy Spirit, providing guidance for today’s challenges and opportunities.
A Call to Action for Kingdom Writers
Writing is not just a skill; it is a sacred responsibility for preserving God’s Word and works. As children of God, we are called to:
- Write intentionally, ensuring that Kingdom truths are preserved for future generations.
- Be faithful scribes, handling God’s Word with reverence and diligence.
- Preserve both the old treasures of Scripture and the new treasures of Spirit-led revelation, leaving a legacy of faith and wisdom.
By embracing writing as a tool for Kingdom preservation, we ensure that God’s truths endure until the return of Christ. Let us rise to this call, stewarding the treasures of the Kingdom through the written word and impacting generations to come.
Thank you reading till the end.
