Thank you for following The Anointed Pen: Writing as a Sacred Call for Kingdom Influence series.
I truly appreciate you for joining me on this journey to uncover the significance of being a Kingdom writer.
Our focus for this month of July is: “Preserving God’s Word Through Writing” and in today’s article, I will be sharing on:
Pen & Presence: Journaling as Worship and Obedience
In an age where content creation floods every platform, the sacredness of writing can be easily overlooked. Yet, for the Kingdom writer, the act of putting pen to paper is not merely for processing thoughts or capturing ideas it is a profound spiritual discipline.
Journaling, when yielded to the Holy Spirit, becomes more than reflection; it becomes worship, obedience, and a sacred space of divine communion.
Journaling as Worship
Worship is not confined to melodies sung in churches. It is the posture of a heart bowed in reverence before God. When you open your journal and pour your heart before Him, your awe, your gratitude, your questions and your cries, you are offering up the incense of your life in written form.
David’s psalms were born in such sacred moments. His laments, declarations, and songs of praise often penned in caves, fields, or battlefields were not written with the intention of becoming scripture.
They were outpourings of his heart before a God he deeply loved. But God received those words and breathed eternity into them.
Journaling, therefore, becomes an altar. Your pen becomes your incense, and your pages, your worship.
“Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice!” Psalm 141:2
What if your written prayers and ponderings are also counted as offerings before the throne?
Journaling as Obedience
There are times when the Lord nudges us: Write that down. It may be a dream, a warning, a word of encouragement, or a burden in prayer. When we ignore that prompting, we risk forgetting the revelation. But when we obey and journal the instruction, we honor the weight of what He has revealed.
Obedience doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes, it’s quietly writing what doesn’t make sense yet, trusting that clarity will come later.
Sometimes it’s documenting a painful process you’re not ready to share with anyone but God.
“Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:5
The faithful scribe doesn’t write only when it is convenient or understood. They write because the One who speaks is faithful.
Journaling as Intercession
There is also a hidden power in journaling as intercession. When you write the names of loved ones, nations, burdens, and prophetic words in your journal, you are standing in the gap with ink and prayer. Each line becomes a form of intercession; silent, yet thunderous in the spirit.
In some seasons, you may find yourself writing prayers over your children, over your ministry, over your generation. And just like Hannah whispered prayers in the temple, your writing may be heard and answered in eternity.
“Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord! Lift your hands to him for the lives of your children…” Lamentations 2:19
To journal is to pray in ink.
Making Space for the Presence
When you consecrate your writing space whether it’s a quiet corner, your bed, office, or your car, you begin to expect His Presence to meet you there. It becomes less about how polished your writing sounds and more about how honest your heart is.
Some practical ways to lean into journaling as sacred practice:
-
Invite the Holy Spirit before you begin writing.
-
Write scripture, not just for study but as a love letter back to God.
-
Respond to what you sense God saying turn His words into your response.
-
Record prayers, dreams, burdens, and thanksgivings with expectation.
Over time, you’ll realize your journal is not just a record of your life, it is a testimony of your walk with God.
Have it in mind that the anointed pen is not only gifted, it is also yielded. And when you yield your pen in the place of Presence, you write not just to remember but to commune.
Not just to reflect but to worship.
Not just to document but to obey.
Let your journal be your altar.
Let your writing be your worship.
Let your pen be your offering.
Thank you for reading till the end.
I will see you next week by God’s grace!
If you have been blessed, please share, I will be glad you did.
